APLAP Conference Update: No Conference in 2023, Potential 2024 Venue Change

The APLAP Conference, originally scheduled to take place in the Solomon Islands in mid-August or September 2023, will not be held this year 2023. Unfortunately, hosting the conference in the specified timeframe is not possible due to major international events also being hosted in the region. The APLAP Executive Committee are actively exploring the possibility of hosting the APLAP Conference in the year 2024, and are currently investigating potential venues. The decision to postpone the conference to the next year is to ensure that we can provide the high-quality experience that our members have come to expect.

We understand the importance of this biennial gathering: fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening collaboration within our community. Our team is committed to making the 2024 conference an exceptional event that will bring together professionals and practitioners from all over the Asia-Pacific region.

Rest assured, we will keep you informed about the developments and any updates regarding the conference as we finalize the details.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we hope you will continue to support the APLAP community. In the meantime, we encourage you to stay connected through our digital platforms, where we will continue to share relevant industry news, research, and resources.

Congratulations to APLA’s new Secretary

The Association of Parliamentary Librarians’ of Asia and the Pacific Executive Committee would like to congratulate Florida Tamu (National Parliament of Solomon Islands) on her nomination and election to the role of APLAP Secretary in April 2023. The Executive would like to thank Florida for taking on this role and thus furthering the goals of APLAP.

Nominations are now open for the position of APLAP Secretary

Dear APLAP Members

It is with much regret that the Association of Parliamentary Librarians of Asia and the Pacific Executive Committee has accepted the resignation of our Secretary, Mustika Wati (Indonesian Parliamentary Library). Mustika took up the role of Secretary in mid-2022 and has played an active role in the Executive team since then. On behalf of the APLAP membership, the Executive Committee would like to wish Mustika well in her future endeavours and offer our sincere gratitude for her hard work and commitment to our organisation.

As a result of Mustika’s departure, the role of APLAP Secretary is current vacant. This prompts the APLAP Executive Committee to open nominations for this position.

Being involved in the APLAP Executive Committee is a great way to get to know your colleagues from across Asia and the Pacific. Serving on the Executive gives you the opportunity to help guide the direction of an organisation dedicated to developing the skills and service of its members, and to give back to a profession that we are all invested in.

Who’s eligible?

All employees of parliamentary libraries or research services that hold active membership of the Association of Parliamentary Librarians of Asia and the Pacific are eligible to stand for election.

How do I nominate someone or get nominated?

Nominations can be made in two ways:

  • individuals may nominate themselves
  • a member may nominate another individual for election, provided the nominee certifies she/he is willing to stand

All nominees must complete the attached form and return it to Fairlyn Sarga (fairlynsarga@gmail.com), Acting Secretary, by Friday 24 February 2023.

Would you like to know more?

If you are interested in nominating for election and would like to discuss any aspect of serving on the APLAP Executive Committee, please contact any of our office bearers who are happy to discuss their experiences and answer any questions you might have.
